Fight Against Hunger
It’s no secret that Amtgarders love food. We enjoy great feasts together and celebrate our sense of taste with deliciousness in the arts of cooking and baking. We also know that not everybody in our local community has their nutritional needs met, and that people experience food insecurity around us each day. In 2009, Amtgarders across the nation came together to start what is now an annual tradition each September: the Amtgard Food Fight.
This Food Fight isn’t of the typical sort, with mashed potatoes flung across the table during sibling squabbles, but a competition to see which Kingdom can generate the most donations to feed the hungry in their local community. Points are earned through fundraising and collecting donations of non-perishable foods.
Our Food Fight Representative for Greenwood Keep is Balor Famori, and he’ll be running some fundraising activities and collecting our donations to drop off. He’ll also be reporting up the points we earn to our Northern Lights Kingdom Representative, Count Medzek, who will keep us informed about how we’re doing in the competition against the other Kingdoms of Amtgard.
Participation in the Food Fight is encouraged, but should never be considered an obligation and is not meant to pose a financial burden on any of our members.
Volunteer Opportunities!
Our events are made possible by the hands and hard work of volunteers from across the park and kingdom. Without members stepping up into roles big and small, we wouldn’t have the ability to come together as a community to do all the fun things we love to do. This includes things like:
- Helping run, reeve, or count points in a battle game
- Making scrolls or gifts for award recipients
- Tournament reeving or counting
- Judging A&S competitions
- Volunteering for a 1-2 hour shift at a campout or other event
- Coordinating an event for a park day or during the week
- And so many more!
If you have any questions about the skills needed, time commitments, or want to sign up to help out but don’t know where to get started, please don’t hesitate to ask! Opportunities are available for everyone and you can lighten the load on fellow Amtgarders while enhancing our community by offering your help.
